What is free, and what is not
The demos are genuinely free with no email gate, and they are short on purpose — enough to see the format and the pace, which is the part that catches people out. Full-length runs, unlimited attempts and saved results are the paid side, at £19.99 once rather than a subscription.

What this site does not practise
Worth knowing before you rely on it. Several operators include a concentration test — timed sheets of symbols to scan and mark, or a dual-task assessment where you handle two things at once. There is no exercise for it here, and we would rather say so than imply we cover a whole assessment. Our guide to concentration tests explains what the named ones actually involve.

- Is there a free train conductor practice test?
- Yes. All six on-board exercises on this site have a free demo, with no account, no email address and no card required. The demos are shorter than a full run, which is the difference between free and paid access.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No. The demos run immediately in the browser. An account is only created if you buy full access.
- Is this the real test?
- No. The exercises are original, written from public descriptions of what operators assess. Operators do not publish their content or marking, and no practice product can reproduce it.
- What score do I need to pass?
- No operator publishes a pass mark, a pass rate or a cut score for on-board selection, so we do not state one.
- Which exercises will I actually face?
- It varies by operator, and most do not publish what sits inside their assessment stage. Our operator pages set out what each one does publish, and flag where the record runs out.
- What is not covered here?
- The concentration test — timed sheets of symbols to scan and mark — appears in several operators' processes and there is no exercise for it on this site. We say so on every operator page that lists one.
