PA Announcements practice
Making an announcement to a train full of people whose evening you have just ruined is the part of the job passengers judge you on, and it turns up in selection folded into a role play, a group exercise or the competency interview. Applicant accounts also describe at least one operator running it as an exercise of its own — we could not corroborate that against a source that still exists, so treat it as the skill being assessed rather than as a stage you will definitely meet. Either way it is about structure and tone under pressure, not about a script.
What this exercise is measuring
Structure — what has happened, what it means for you, what happens next, what we are doing — plus plain language and a calm tone when the news is bad.
Compiled from publicly posted applicant accounts and operator job adverts, September 2026. Processes change without notice — your invitation letter is the only authority on what you will sit. Public detail on this exercise is thinner than for the others here; our scenarios are invented and our feedback reflects good practice in passenger communication, not an operator's marking scheme.
